The Foodie

I once met a girl who was such a foodie,

Good food lifted her spirits for she was a bit moody!

She loved to travel to far-off places and try out various dishes,

Local veggies, meat, salads and even different fishes!

She had fish and chips in London and french fries in France,

Good food captivated her senses and put her in a trance!

She had Chicken Murtabak in Dubai and Malay Lobsters in Thailand,

Oh she could order any dish, if only she had a magic wand!

She loved the traditional Newari thali in Kathmandu,

When she had Juju Dhau made from buffalo's milk, she thought it was fundoo!

She enjoyed Kaya toast and Tea on her visit to Singapore,

Oh her taste buds were always seeking new recipes to explore!

She travelled to South India - a land shaped like an inverted triangle,

She had various Dosas with chutneys and Idlis as round as her bangle!

She had lip smacking Dindigul Biryani and washed it down with filter coffee,

She ate Chettinad Crabs and salad, rounding it up with Ooty's dark chocolate toffee!

After a meal she had a habit of smelling her fingers for the fragrance,

She could sniff a tasty meal being cooked even from a distance!

Sometimes she would pause; and enjoy samosas and tea in the rain,

If it wasn't for the war I suspect she would have also reached Russia- Ukraine!

So yes I met this girl who is such a lover of food,

After knowing her for many years, this facet of hers I understood.

The Foodie Illustration is by artist Radhika Mangtani.

Radhika is a student of NIFT, Bhubaneswar and is also a Graphic Designer. She has been an avid lover of art and sketching since her early days. She gets inspired by vignettes in our daily lives especially during travel. For example in her works you will find a beautiful illustration of a fellow passenger on train (an old gentleman and when she later gifted him his sketch his pleasant surprise on receiving it was a moment to savor).
